To be a footballer with a flashy career, just having the ability to process great balls is not enough. Because in football, anything can happen. Early in his career, Pablo Aimar was shining with River Plate and Valencia was mentioned as an incarnation of Argentine legend Diego Maradona. Long before Lionel Messi was aligned with Maradona, Aimar was first labeled the next Maradona by the Argentine public.
Just like Maradona, Aimar was born in Argentina. The best position to issue his abilities is as an attacking midfielder. His career in Europe was quite flashy, at least compared to his rival in the Argentine national team, Juan Roman Riquelme. After migrating from the squad who raised his name, River Plate, Aimar led Valencia to the La Liga title twice. Whereas before, Valencia had not won the La Liga champion for 30 years. The greatness of Aimar itself was recognized directly by Maradona. Since Aimar decided to move to Europe to defend Valencia, Maradona had predicted that Aimar would be a great player.
"Aimar is the current footballer who I am willing to pay to watch the game," said Maradona as worldsoccer wrote in 2003. "He has been the most talented player in recent years and for the next few years. Valencia will idolize Aimar immediately
It turns out that what Maradona said was true. Aimar then became an important figure in the victory that Valencia achieved at that time. Before giving the La Liga title, at the beginning of his arrival, Aimar was part of the Valencia squad which won the Champions League runners-up in 2001. Three years later, Aimar managed to deliver Valencia to win the Uefa Cup (now Europa League) and Super Europe.
The greatness of Aimar as a motorbike for Valencia's attack made him nicknamed 'El Mago' which means the Witch. His ability at that time did spoil Kily Gonzalez, Gaizka Mendieta and John Carew with measurable passes.
But when the coaching chair changed from Rafael Benitez to Claudio Ranieri, Aimar struggled to bring out his best abilities. Until finally, he had to be eliminated from the competition and leave for another La Liga team, Real Zaragoza.
